About Camp Akita

Camp Akita, a ministry of First Community, is a summer camp, group activity center, and cabin rental facility located 45 miles southeast of Columbus in the rolling hills of Hocking County, Ohio. The facility includes over 1,200 acres of land, 15 miles of marked hiking trails, a nature sanctuary, a basketball court, a ropes challenge course, and a 7-acre lake for fishing, swimming, and canoeing.

What We Do

Summer Camp

Camp Akita's summer camp is a co-ed, residential camp experience for youth in 1st through 12th grades. As a camper, you will experience crazy fun and excitement, thoughtful times of reflection and conversation, and a loving community that values you unconditionally for who you are. Learn more

Facility Rentals

Rent one of our cabins in the woods and bring your family for a relaxing weekend getaway in a beautiful setting. Larger groups can reserve side-by-side cabins together or stay in our main Lodge. We can accommodate weddings with locations for the ceremony, reception, and overnight lodging for your guests. Learn more

Who We Are

Camp Akita is a place of fun and reflection where all who enter are encouraged to strengthen their relationship with God, self, others, and nature. Founded in 1949 by Dr. Roy Burkhart on land donated by the Galbreath family, Camp Akita is accredited by the American Camp Association and is a ministry of First Community in Columbus, Ohio.
