Summer 2024 was a huge success! We saw an abundance of well-qualified staff, more campers than we’ve seen since the pandemic, and countless campers who joyfully stood to share about their experience on the last night of camp. Summer 2024 was Camp Akita at its very best!
That said, we also faced some unexpected financial challenges, including a steep increase in the cost of food and utilities. We rely on camper tuition, donations from families, and grants from the First Community Foundation to support Camp Akita each year, but even still, we are set to end 2024 in the red.
Please consider Camp Akita in a year-end gift. Your contribution will help us cover our outstanding 2024 expenses so we can plan for Camp Akita 2025 with confidence. In honor of 2024, our suggested donation is $24—or bump it to $75, since it was our 75th summer! Special Year-End Donation
Each summer, more than 1,500 campers attend Camp Akita for fun, reflection, and fellowship. Our mission is to provide young people with a place to learn about and connect with themselves, their friends, the outdoors, and a loving God.
We welcome children from all religious, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds. By creating an atmosphere that is safe and open to all, our campers are able to have fun, make new friends, and spend time talking about the important things in their own lives. It is our belief that spiritual development is an important part of every child’s journey to adulthood and we celebrate that faith takes many forms.
Each year, we give between $15,000 - $22,000 in scholarships to campers needing financial assistance and to resettled refugees. We strongly believe that all children can benefit from experiencing camp, and our goal is to ensure that a lack of money does not cause a camper to miss out on this experience.
Our facilities need care also. Investing in improvements and additions to our grounds and facilities help maintain a memorable and safe camp experience for everyone.
