I began attending Akita as a rising 9th grader in 2001 and have not missed a summer since! My first summer on staff was 2006; I have served as a Counselor, Adventure Program Director, and Program Team Member. In 2010 I became an Assistant Camp Director. My responsibilities include providing the message for the high school camp sessions, directing the L.I.F.E. Guard program, and leading the Akita Backcoutry and La Vida backpacking trips. My favorite time of day at Akita is L.I.F.E. Guard journal time, when our group can reflect together on the spirit of Akita and what it means to give back to a place we love.
I graduated from Washington and Lee University in 2009 with a major in English and a minor in Poverty Studies. I love the outdoors; my noteworthy adventures include sky diving in Texas, white water rafting in Colorado, zip lining in Costa Rica, and sliding down waterfalls in the Dominican Republic. I love traveling, reading, and any opportunity to dress in costumes. I had a wonderful and adventurous childhood and now have three fake teeth as a result. My ideal afternoon would include a hike with my dog Otter, followed by finger sandwiches, lemonade, and girl talk on the Akita lake deck. I hope you will join me there this summer!
